How does a video uploaded on YouTube cause worldwide protest in Muslim-majority countries? How do we address violence against our neighbors of different faiths in light of the Sunday morning shooting at the Wisconsin Sikh Temple? How do we combat stereotypes about Muslims in our own neighborhoods?
These are just a few of the pertinent issues that will be addressed at this upcoming SCUPE event. Come for a lecture and round table discussion with Rev. Dr. Johnson Mbillah, a renowned speaker and writer, and the General Advisor for the Program for Christian Muslim Relations in Africa (PROCMURA) in Nairobi, Kenya.

In light of SCUPE’s upcoming conversation with Dr. Mbillah I wanted to share this excellent piece. It’s a fairly in-depth look at the protests spurred by the anti-Muhammad hack piece “Innocence of Muslims” and the media slight of hand that hides the imperialist involvement of the U.S. in Muslim-majority countries under the cloud of “the clash of civilizations”. From Deepa Kumar, author of Islamophobia and the Politics of Empire, “Anti-American Protests: Cutting Through Media Propaganda”: http://empirebytes.com/2012/09/15/anti-american-protests-cutting-through-media-propaganda/
